Intel shores up its desktop CPU lineup with boosted Core Ultra 200S Plus chips

Intel is refreshing its desktop CPU lineup with Core Ultra 200S Plus processors, which offer more efficiency cores, higher clock speeds, and faster memory support to address gaming performance gaps compared to previous generations and AMD's X3D chips. The upgrades aim to deliver an average 15% gaming performance improvement over the original Arrow Lake chips. This is an incremental update rather than a next-generation launch.

Background

Intel's Core Ultra 200S desktop chips (Arrow Lake) launched in late 2024 as a significant update but faced gaming performance challenges compared to older Intel chips and AMD's Ryzen X3D processors with extra cache.
