Gaim 3 is a new universal chat client currently in early development that revives the classic Gaim name and interface. Built on libpurple 3 and GTK 4, it will support multiple chat networks and run cross-platform. The project emerged as a response to Pidgin 3's shift toward chat room interfaces, aiming to preserve the direct messaging focus users preferred.
Background
Gaim was the original name of the Pidgin instant messaging client before a trademark dispute forced the name change. Pidgin is a popular open-source multi-protocol chat client built on libpurple.
