YouTube has expanded its time management settings to allow users to completely disable Shorts by setting a zero-minute time limit. This update builds on the existing Shorts timer feature that previously had a minimum limit of 15 minutes. The feature is now rolling out to all users after initially being available to parents for controlling children's screen time.
Background
YouTube Shorts is YouTube's short-form video feature competing with TikTok and Instagram Reels, which has become increasingly prominent in the platform's interface. Digital wellbeing features have become more important as platforms address concerns about screen time and addictive content consumption.
