X is shutting down its Communities feature due to low user adoption and significant spam problems. The company confirmed that only a small fraction of users engaged with Communities, with much of that activity being spam-related. This represents another feature sunset for the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Background
X (formerly Twitter) has been experimenting with various community features to increase user engagement beyond the main timeline. Communities was one such feature launched to allow users to create and join topic-based groups.
