Apple was surprised by AI-driven demand for Macs

Apple's Q2 2026 earnings revealed unexpected Mac revenue growth of $8.4B, beating forecasts by $400M, driven partly by AI workload demand. CEO Tim Cook noted record new Mac customers and sold-out Mac mini/Mac Studio units due to local AI model usage like OpenClaw. The MacBook Neo launch also contributed to the 6% annual sales increase.

Background

Apple's Mac division has traditionally been secondary to iPhone and Services revenue, but recent AI capabilities in M-series chips have expanded its use cases. The company released the colorful MacBook Neo in March 2026 to refresh its lineup.
