Meta brings virtual writing to everyone with Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses

Meta is expanding access to its virtual handwriting feature for Ray-Ban smart glasses, now available to all users across WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and native mobile messaging. The feature, which uses a neural wristband to detect hand gestures for text input, was previously in early access. This update represents a significant step in making gesture-based computing more accessible to mainstream users.

Background

Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses represent the company's push into augmented reality and wearable computing, with previous iterations focusing on photo/video capture and audio features. The neural wristband technology was first showcased as a prototype in 2021, demonstrating Meta's interest in developing more natural human-computer interfaces.
