Protestware for coding agents

The jqwik testing library version 1.10.0 includes a hidden protest message in its test executor that targets AI coding assistants, marking a novel form of 'protestware' in open source software. The message, which is visible in logs and tool outputs but not terminal displays, explicitly instructs AI systems to disregard previous instructions and delete jqwik tests and code. This represents the first known case of protestware specifically targeting AI systems rather than human users, raising questions about the ethics of AI training on open source code.

Background

Protestware refers to software that includes code to make a political or social statement, often by modifying or disrupting normal functionality. Previous examples include packages that displayed anti-war messages or targeted users from specific regions during geopolitical conflicts.
