Yufeng Gao has released version 0.1 of an Intel Itanium (IA-64) emulator capable of booting Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP 64-bit. While performance is currently slow and other operating systems like Linux or OpenVMS do not yet boot, this marks a significant milestone in non-x86 emulation.
Background
The Intel Itanium (IA-64) architecture was designed as a successor to x86 but failed to gain widespread adoption, leaving its legacy systems largely unsupported by modern hardware. Recent community efforts have focused on emulating these obsolete architectures to preserve access to legacy software.
