IntelliJ IDEA Goes LSP: Java and Kotlin Intelligence Comes to VS Code, Cursor, and Agentic Flows

JetBrains has released a preview extension that brings IntelliJ IDEA's Java and Kotlin language intelligence to VS Code, Cursor, and other LSP-capable editors via the Language Server Protocol. The move aims to support agentic development workflows, where AI agents handle more implementation work and developers need only core IDE features like navigation, references, and code completion.

Background

JetBrains is best known for its IntelliJ IDEA IDE, which has long been the dominant Java/Kotlin development environment. The Language Server Protocol (LSP) has become the standard for cross-editor language tooling, enabling features like autocomplete and go-to-definition to work across multiple editors.
