A GitHub project ports Microsoft Word 1.1a to a native x64 Windows executable by replacing 16-bit assembly, segmented memory handling, and Win16 platform boundaries with modern equivalents. It preserves the original application and user experience, not an emulator or reimplementation.
Background
Microsoft Word for Windows 1.1a (codename Opus) was released in 1989 as one of the earliest versions of Word for Windows. It originally ran as a 16-bit application on DOS/Windows 3.x.
