Ford reports its $2B Louisville Assembly Plant overhaul is on track, with prototype builds of the Fathom EV midsize truck starting in Q1 2027. The truck, priced under $30,000, will be the first built on Ford's new universal production platform featuring a three-branched assembly system and large single-piece aluminum castings.
Background
Ford has struggled with EV profitability as Chinese manufacturers and Tesla have gained ground with high-volume, cost-effective electric vehicles. The Louisville plant was closed two years ago to be completely redesigned for next-generation EV production.
