Apple squashes EU beef with new App Store rules

Apple is overhauling its EU App Store rules to address disagreements with the European Commission, introducing a single set of business terms for all developers. Apps distributed outside the App Store will face a 5% Core Technology Fee on digital transactions, while in-app purchases will remain at a 26% commission or 20% for alternate payment systems.

Background

Apple has faced increasing regulatory scrutiny in the EU under the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which requires gatekeeper platforms like Apple to allow alternative app distribution and payment systems.
