Mojo is now open source

Modular has open-sourced the Mojo programming language under the Apache 2.0 license with LLVM exceptions, making the full compiler and toolchain available on GitHub. The launch follows Mojo reaching version 1.0 with source stability, building on four years of community-driven development. Mojo is designed as a general-purpose language optimized for GPUs, AI accelerators, and advanced compute workloads.

Background

Mojo is a general-purpose programming language developed by Modular, designed to combine Python's ease of use with low-level performance on GPUs and AI accelerators. The language has been in development since 2021, building on research from the MLIR compiler infrastructure.
