Reverse-engineering Find My People to stalk ̶m̶y̶ ̶e̶x̶ a friend, cause I can

A developer reverse-engineered Apple's Find My People feature to create a Linux-based geofencing automation that notifies them via Discord when a consenting friend arrives or leaves certain locations. The process proved unexpectedly complex, as no prior full reverse-engineering existed, requiring analysis of iCloud APIs, decompilations of Apple's internal daemons like fmfd and searchpartyd, and testing against existing open-source clients.

Background

Apple's Find My network includes both device tracking and a 'Find My People' location-sharing feature, but Apple does not provide an official API for the latter. Enthusiasts have long sought to integrate it into non-Apple ecosystems.
