The Rust compiler team is enabling the next-generation trait solver by default on nightly after nearly 4 years of development, as part of the largest single change to rustc since its initial release. This overhaul replaces how where-clauses are proven and associated types are normalized, fixing over 200 issues and unblocking future features like Type Alias Impl Trait and implicit default trait bounds.
Background
The Rustc Trait System Refactor Initiative has been working for nearly 4 years to replace the legacy Chalk-based trait solving system with a new, more robust implementation. This change is critical infrastructure work that will enable numerous pending Rust language features.
