KDE Linux experiences

KDE developer Akseli Lahtinen shares his year-long daily driving experience with KDE Linux, an immutable Arch-based distro from KDE that currently relies on Flatpak for packages and uses systemd-sysext for layered customizations. While praising the convenience of nightly upstream builds and the ability to boot previous images when updates break, he notes ongoing alpha-stage instability and ultimately decides to switch back to Fedora KDE.

Background

KDE Linux is an upcoming atomic/immutable Linux distribution being developed by the KDE community, initially built on Arch Linux with heavy modifications. It aims to provide a stable desktop environment with simplified updates and strong integration for KDE developers.
