I stabilized never type

The never type (!) in Rust has finally been stabilized on nightly after 10 years of effort and 5 failed attempts. The author spent over 2 years working on it and describes the completion with a mix of relief and emptiness.

Background

Rust's never type (!), representing a value that never exists (e.g. from a function that never returns), has been one of the longest-standing unstable features in Rust's compiler. It has been attempted to stabilize multiple times over the past decade without success.
