TurboCrypt is switching from Base91 to Base84 encoding for encrypted file names to achieve Windows compatibility, removing nine forbidden characters plus the trailing dot from the printable ASCII set. The author argues Base84 is a perfectly suited but underused alphabet of 84 characters safe across Linux, macOS, and Windows filesystems.
