T. rex teeth indicate it ran as warm as an elephant

Researchers from UCLA used clumped isotope thermometry on T. rex teeth to estimate its body temperature at around 36°C, similar to a modern elephant. This method overcomes previous limitations of oxygen isotope analysis by not requiring assumptions about ancient water composition.

Background

T. rex thermal physiology has long been debated, with competing theories between cold-blooded reptile and warm-blooded bird-like models. Previous attempts to measure dinosaur body temperature relied on oxygen isotopes in bone and tooth enamel.
