A new CPU erratum was discovered on Loongson's LA664 where an atomic add instruction occasionally fails to be atomic, causing infinite loops in OpenMP parallel programs. Loongson identified the root cause and delivered a fix with minimal performance impact within two weeks, with firmware expected before October 1.
Background
Loongson (龙芯) is a Chinese CPU manufacturer producing processors based on the LoongArch instruction set architecture. The LA664 is one of their mid-range server/desktop processor cores.
