Klassik Revives the KDE 3 Desktop on Modern Plasma 6

Klassik is an open-source project that recreates the classic KDE 3 desktop experience on modern Plasma 6 by rebuilding original components with Qt 6 and Qt Quick rather than merely applying a theme. It includes ported applets like the K Menu, Quicklaunch, task manager, and KDE 2/3 window decorations, while retaining the full capabilities of a modern Plasma environment with Wayland and fractional scaling support.

Background

KDE 3 was a widely beloved Linux desktop environment released in 2002, known for its simplicity and flexibility, before being replaced by the Qt5-based KDE Plasma 5 in 2014. This project appeals to nostalgia-driven users while providing a functional modern Linux desktop underneath.
