Epic Games has released a preview build of its new Epic Games Launcher, claiming it's significantly faster than Valve's Steam. The team used AI as a coding tool to rebuild the launcher from scratch in a new tech stack, aiming for better performance across Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Background
Epic Games Store launched in 2018 as a direct competitor to Steam, but its launcher has long been criticized for poor performance. This marks Epic's second major launcher rewrite eight years later.
