Jepsen tested Orkes Conductor versions 5.3.2–5.5.0-rc2 and found serious safety issues that caused permanent abandonment or forgetting of workflow executions, along with frequent concurrent task execution that could delay workflows and four minor startWorkflow errors. Orkes released version 5.5.6 patching all serious safety issues, reducing concurrent execution, and fixing two startWorkflow errors; delayed execution is considered within design parameters and need not be addressed.
Background
Orkes Conductor is a workflow orchestration platform originally built by Netflix and open-sourced in 2016, now maintained by Orkes. Jepsen analyses test such systems for correctness under concurrency and failure conditions.
