Ford's upcoming $30K Fathom electric pickup integrates bidirectional vehicle-to-home charging directly into the truck via a built-in inverter, eliminating the need for external wallbox hardware. The technology resulted from Ford's acquisition of Auto Motive Power three years ago and makes every Fathom capable of serving as a home backup battery.
Background
Vehicle-to-home bidirectional charging has been available on higher-priced EVs like the Ford F-150 Lightning, but requires additional hardware. Ford's move to integrate it standard on an affordable truck could significantly expand access to this technology.
