The last, best hope for space tourism just rolled onto a runway in Arizona

Virgin Galactic has named its first Delta-class spacecraft 'Apeiron,' marking a milestone in its second-generation suborbital vehicle program. The reveal comes as U.S. space tourism has been dormant for over 10 months following the final flights of Blue Origin's New Shepard, SpaceX's Crew Dragon free-flyer missions, and Virgin Galactic's VSS Unity.

Background

U.S. commercial space tourism saw rapid growth between 2021-2023 but has since stalled as companies transitioned to next-generation vehicles. Virgin Galactic aims to deploy two Delta-class ships by 2026 to restart suborbital tourism flights.
