Pidgin 3.0 Alpha 4 (version 2.98.0) has been released as a timed development snapshot for testers and developers. The release includes UI tweaks and username formatting improvements, but is explicitly not ready for end users due to missing features, unpolished interface, and numerous bugs. The team asks packagers to avoid distributing it to general users at this time.
Background
Pidgin is a popular open-source multi-protocol instant messaging client for Linux and other Unix-like systems. The project is currently undergoing a major rewrite for version 3.0, with alpha releases serving as development milestones before the stable release.
