Declarative Dragging, a model-driven framework award-winning at UIST 2026, simplifies drag-and-drop development by letting authors specify target states rather than hand-coding visual behavior. The engine speculatively renders possible futures, extracts positions, and composes them into smooth, responsive interactions with composable modifiers like snapping and floating.
Background
Drag-and-drop interaction design traditionally requires extensive hand-coded geometry, animation, and feedback logic. This work presents an alternative paradigm rooted in model-driven UI design.
