EA has lightly remastered and re-released 25 classic 1990s games, including the Wing Commander series (I–IV, Prophecy, Privateer 2, and more) and nearly the entire Ultima series, now available on Steam and GOG. A senior EA producer detailed the remastering effort behind several of the titles in a blog post.
Background
EA acquired Origin Systems in 1992, gaining rights to the Wing Commander and Ultima franchises. Both series were highly influential in the 1990s before declining in quality and popularity in the 2000s.
