Accel reportedly in talks to lead $1B round for Thinking Machines at $40B valuation

Thinking Machines, the AI lab founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, is in talks to raise $1 billion at a valuation of at least $40 billion, with Accel leading the round. The company's annual revenue run rate exceeds $100 million, making the $40B valuation an extremely high revenue multiple. This round values the company below the $50B it previously sought, down from its $12B seed valuation.

Background

Thinking Machines raised a record $2 billion seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz in early 2025, valued at $12 billion, backed by Nvidia, GV, and other top investors. The company has faced notable executive departures, with co-founders Lilian Weng and Luke Metz returning to OpenAI.
