Signal has rolled out major improvements to its backup system across all platforms with iOS 8.30, including cross-platform restore support, on-device backups to user-chosen destinations like NAS, and storage optimization that deduplicates media files. These enhancements build on the Secure Backups feature introduced a year ago.
Background
Signal is a privacy-focused encrypted messaging app known for its strong security practices. Secure Backups was introduced a year ago as an optional feature to address the long-standing limitation of losing chat history when switching devices.
