Binance revealed that North Korean hackers spent months planning a $6.34 billion cryptocurrency theft, the largest ever targeted in a crypto heist, using social engineering, compromised Homebrew installs, and advanced malware. The exchange has since frozen or intercepted $2.85 billion of the stolen funds and says it has set aside reserves to cover the loss.
Background
North Korean state-sponsored threat actors have been linked to multiple large-scale cryptocurrency thefts in recent years as a means of generating offshore revenue. Binance is the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume.
