Crusoe raises $3.9B to build massive data centers and small modular “AI factories”

Crusoe has raised $3.9 billion in a Series F funding round, bringing its valuation to $30.9 billion, to finance both massive data centers and modular AI factories that can be deployed quickly via truck transport. The investment includes participation from major players like Nvidia, Qatar Investment Authority, and Valor Equity Partners, while new board members bring expertise from Cloudflare, Redwood Materials, and Primary Digital Infrastructure. This capital will support existing projects like OpenAI's Abilene facility and enable Crusoe's smaller Spark modular data centers as an alternative to traditional large-scale construction.

Background

The AI infrastructure boom has intensified competition for data center capacity, with modular and portable computing solutions emerging as alternatives to traditional massive construction projects. Crusoe, co-founded by former Tesla executive, has been developing its Spark modular data center technology to address both deployment speed and community opposition concerns.
