Researchers propose the DIFF operator, a relational aggregation operator that integrates the functionality of existing data explanation engines into declarative SQL-based query processing. Implemented in MB SQL as an extension of MacroBase, it supports both single-node and distributed execution and achieves up to an order of magnitude better performance than state-of-the-art engines in production use cases.
Background
MacroBase is a system for anomaly detection and explanation over large-scale data, previously focused on standalone analysis workflows. This work bridges the gap between specialized explanation engines and traditional SQL-based analytics platforms.
