Farid Zakaria introduces omnibin, a FUSE filesystem that exposes all 51,000+ Nixpkgs binaries on your $PATH without installing or building anything. It uses zero bytes on disk until a file is read, providing on-demand access to packages from 2013–2026. The tool also has a Docker/OCI integration for containerized environments.
Background
Nixpkgs is a large package collection for the Nix package manager containing over 800,000 binaries. FUSE (Filesystem in Userspace) allows users to implement custom filesystems without kernel modifications.
