Google is donating the gVisor sandboxed runtime project to the CNCF, following the same path as Kubernetes. The project will transition to CNCF Sandbox status, shift to a maintainers-based governance model with non-Google contributors gaining merge permissions, and eventually progress to CNCF Incubation status.
Background
gVisor is a sandboxed container runtime originally open-sourced by Google in 2018, written in Go and Rust that provides an additional isolation layer between containers and the Linux kernel.
