Introducing the GNOME Fellowship program

The GNOME Foundation has launched the GNOME Fellowship program, a new initiative to directly fund contributors working on long-term sustainability of the GNOME project. The inaugural fellowship cycle begins in May 2026 and will provide 12-month funding for individuals to focus on critical infrastructure and maintenance work. This program aims to address underinvestment in less glamorous but essential areas of the open-source desktop environment.

Background

GNOME is a popular open-source desktop environment for Linux systems, developed and maintained by a global community of contributors. The GNOME Foundation supports the project's development and promotes its adoption.
