A US judge has ordered Google to make it easier for users to download third-party app stores through Google Play, ruling that the current implementation adds unnecessary "anticompetitive friction." The court found Google buried the link to alternative app stores deep within confusing menus, even failing to surface relevant search results.
Background
Google lost its 2023 US antitrust trial and has been implementing court-ordered remedies, including allowing third-party app stores in the Play Store. Aptoide Games became the first approved alternative app store.
