Lifeguard: A static analyzer for Python lazy imports compatibility

Facebook released Lifeguard, a static analysis tool built in Rust that detects lazy-import incompatibilities in Python codebases. It targets PEP 810 adoption by identifying patterns such as module-level side effects and circular dependencies that break under deferred loading, helping teams migrate without runtime surprises.

Background

PEP 810 proposes explicit lazy imports to defer module loading until first access, reducing startup time and memory. However, existing code relying on eager import side effects can silently break. Tools like Lifeguard are needed to safely adopt this optimization at scale.
