Polestar and Volvo are consolidating all Polestar 3 production to their South Carolina factory, ceasing manufacturing in Chengdu, China. The move aims to improve operational efficiency and leverage the US as a strategic production hub for regional and export markets. This follows Volvo's 7% sales decline in 2025, while Polestar saw a 34% increase.
Background
Polestar is an electric vehicle manufacturer spun off from Volvo's performance division in 2017. Volvo's South Carolina factory previously produced the S60 sedan and now manufactures electric SUVs including the EX90 and Polestar 3.
