Raspberry Pi has released Raspberry Pi Desktop for PC and Mac, featuring a fully updated Debian Trixie base with the distinctive Raspberry Pi desktop environment and integrated Raspberry Pi Connect client. The project began as a 2016 side experiment after CEO Eben Upton suggested running the Pi's desktop on his Mac, which was later refined from a proof-of-concept into a public product.
Background
Raspberry Pi Desktop is the custom desktop environment originally developed for Raspberry Pi single-board computers, featuring a modified LXDE interface optimized for the platform. This release extends that experience to x86 PCs and Apple Macs, allowing users to run the familiar Raspberry Pi OS interface on standard computers.
