Reverse engineering my e-scooter and rewriting the firmware in rust

Ben reverse engineered the hardware and firmware of his Egret GT e-scooter, analyzing component communication and discovering firmware update capabilities over Bluetooth. He explored the mobile app's Bluetooth handlers to understand data transmission between the scooter and app, including hidden metrics like motor current and battery voltage. The project led him to write custom firmware for the display unit in Rust.

Background

Reverse engineering consumer electronics firmware has become a growing hobbyist and security research activity, with many enthusiasts exploring the inner workings of IoT devices and embedded systems. Rust has gained popularity in embedded development due to its memory safety guarantees.
