Beta release of wgsl-rs, a Rust-to-WGSL transpiler for WebGPU shaders, now available on crates.io. The project addressed key semantic mismatches between Rust and WGSL, including operator precedence differences and vector equality producing masks instead of booleans. Development shifted to focusing on runtime IR and systematically closing language disagreements.
Background
WGSL (WebGPU Shading Language) is the standard shading language for WebGPU graphics API. wgsl-rs enables Rust developers to write shaders directly in Rust, which then gets transpiled to WGSL for GPU execution.
