Stateless MCP has recaptured my interest (and inspired mcp-explorer and datasette-mcp)

Anthropic released MCP 2.0 (Stateless MCP), the most significant update to the Model Context Protocol since its launch. The stateless design greatly simplifies implementing both clients and servers, and makes MCP tools easier to audit and control compared to giving agents full shell access. The author built three MCP implementations in a single week after the release.

Background

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) was introduced by Anthropic in November 2024 as a standard way to expose tools to LLM-powered agent frameworks. It saw massive interest in 2025 but was partially eclipsed by Anthropic's Skills framework, which offered more flexibility through terminal access.
