Topgolf saved over $11.3 million after leaving VMware

Topgolf migrated 12,000 virtual machines from VMware to VergeIO's VergeOS, saving over $11.3 million after VMware's Broadcom-led restructuring was set to increase costs by 400%. The sports entertainment company, which had deep VMware integration dating back to its vSphere and Horizon deployments, is expected to be fully off VMware by December 2026.

Background

VMware was acquired by Broadcom in late 2023, which drastically changed its licensing model by eliminating perpetual licenses and bundling products into expensive subscription SKUs, prompting many enterprises to seek alternatives.
