Wasmi 2.0 is a major release of the WebAssembly interpreter, delivering approximately 2.2x performance improvement over Wasmi 1.0 across benchmark suites. The release includes new features such as stable fuel metering, support for WebAssembly's deterministic profile, an improved CLI tool, and a validate crate feature that reduces binary artifact size.
Background
Wasmi is a popular Rust-based WebAssembly interpreter widely used in embedded systems, smart contracts (Soroban, Ripple), and plugin ecosystems. The project has been sponsored by the Stellar Development Foundation since October 2024.
