Apple has launched its first in-house smart home devices, the Home Collection, co-developed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric, including cameras, thermostats, sensors, a smart door lock, and a video doorbell, alongside its first smart display, HomeView. The move comes after more than a decade of relying on third-party partners for its HomeKit ecosystem, which lagged behind Amazon and Google in both product variety and owned brands.
Background
Apple's HomeKit platform launched in 2014 but struggled to gain traction due to limited hardware options compared to Amazon's Alexa and Google's Nest ecosystems, prompting Apple to take direct manufacturing into its own hands this year.
