zinnia: a modular 64-bit Unix-like kernel written in Rust

Zinnia is a new 64-bit Unix-like kernel written primarily in Rust, featuring modular architecture with loadable drivers and POSIX compatibility. It supports modern desktop environments like Wayland and X11, and can boot on x86_64 systems via UEFI. While currently focused on x86_64, the project has plans for aarch64 and RISC-V support in the future.

Background

Rust has been gaining traction in systems programming due to its memory safety guarantees, and there's growing interest in using it for operating system development as an alternative to C/C++. Several experimental OS projects are exploring Rust's capabilities in this space.
